Glazier

As a Glazier, you measure, cut, finish, install and repair glass in a range of settings, including homes, commercial buildings and construction sites. You may work with a variety of glass products, including windows, doors, shopfronts, display cases, mirrors, shower screens, pool fencing, balustrades and safety glass.

Glaziers often fabricate framework, in both timber or aluminium, utilising specialised tools and equipment to ensure glass is fitted securely and safely.

A typical day may involve:

  • Travelling to homes, building sites or commercial properties to install or repair glass
  • Measuring window frames, doors and openings to ensure glass fits correctly
  • Cutting, shaping and handling glass safely
  • Installing glass in windows, doors, shop-fronts, shower screens and mirrors
  • Removing and replacing broken or damaged glass
  • Using hand tools, power tools and lifting equipment
  • Applying seals, putty or frames to secure glass in place
  • Checking finished work for safety, strength and appearance
  • Following workplace safety procedures when handling glass
  • Talking with customers or builders about job requirements
  • Cleaning glass, frames and work areas after installation or repairs
  • Coating, cutting, etching, trimming and treating glass to achieve special effects
