The third-year commercial carpentry apprentice says she chose her career path because she wanted to work outdoors (not in an office) and feel rewarded when her hard work materialised into a final product, she can be proud of.
She also loved the support from her Field Officers at Master Builders SA, saying ‘she felt listened to and taken seriously’.
At MBASA we believe everyone deserves that right and that it should send a signal to the thousands of other school leavers who remain unsure of their career path or how they want to be supported when they take their next steps.
Born to Build is the perfect program to help people like Miranda take their next steps. The program reaches out to school students, mature age students, skilled migrants and anyone and everyone else considering a rewarding career as a tradesperson. Our door is always open.
We offer a variety of apprenticeships – from plumbing to carpentry, electrical to tiling and the list is growing. Our GTO completion rates are also some of the highest in the state.
Certainly, Miranda loves the idea of earning a wage while learning a trade and is looking forward to the average wage she and so many others will receive upon graduating – close to, or in excess of, six figures.
A recent survey from Finder.com also revealed apprentice graduates will be able to buy a house 4 years sooner than most university graduates – without having the burden of a $50,000 or so HECS debt.
There is still a critical skills shortage in the building and construction, but employers can take comfort that future apprentices like Miranda are coming through the ranks.
To reward her for her hard work and positive attitude, Miranda has already picked up a number of apprenticeship awards and even featured in the new Born to Build video we are currently promoting to entice the next generation of apprentices.
