Born to Build is a Master Builders SA initiative making a real difference in addressing the well-documented skills shortage. The program is strongly backed by Premier Peter Malinauskas and Skills Minister Blair Boyer. Trades dominated a recent report of occupations most likely to own their own home and provide strong protection against the job losses AI is causing in other industries.
Every week Born to Build’s Cassie Green and Chris Blowes are out at schools, colleges and sporting clubs inspiring kids from Year 7 onwards to take up a trade, and their effectiveness is second to none. Each year, the Born to Build team delivers more than 180 South Australians into apprenticeships right across the industry!
Master Builders SA is also the official delivery partner on the State Government’s Technical Colleges at Tonsley and The Heights. We’re having input into the curriculum and providing interactive work stations, site visits, career advice and mentoring, work experience and most importantly, apprenticeships.
And that’s not all. Master Builders SA is the number one Group Training Organisation in South Australia when it comes to supporting mature-aged (21+) apprentices. We successfully lobbied for GTO Boost and CITB’s Mature Aged Supplement, employer incentives to assist with the cost of taking on an apprentice, and now this group makes up about a quarter of our apprenticeship program.
